My wife and I joke around that “It’s always Thursday”. Any time we stop to think about life and take stock of ourselves, it’s always Thursday, and I’m always getting the trash ready for Friday morning pickup.
One Thursday blurs into the next Thursday which blurs into the next. Time flys by so quickly I can’t even stop it. The kids are getting so tall and so much older. Jack has grown and has turned into a pensive young man, still all of 12 years old. Elsa is getting taller and losing much of her goofiness, which I miss. Emma is almost 18 and has a boyfriend. Laina is 20 years old. Life is good. Life is so good in fact, that it just breezes by like a warm summer’s day.
Last Thursday mom, Jack and myself went to St Louis. We met Ted at the ballpark and went to the Cardinals opening day festivities and game. I’m not a religious man, but opening day in St Louis is the closest I come to a holy experience. Just seeing the Clydesdales trot out on the field makes my heart full. It’s a sign that spring is officially here.
Mom twisted her ankle when we were leaving the parking garage. She’s better now but it was kinda scary there for a minute. Ted and I had to hold her up to get her around. I went to Walmart and got her a cane and bags of frozen peas to reduce swelling.
Jack’s road trips for travel baseball officially began last Saturday. The wife and I left home at 7:30am to go to Quincy to see Jack play. The temperature was 28 degrees and there where 20-30 mph gusts of wind. It was miserable feeling. I had to stand the whole time just to keep my body moving to keep warm.
The next day Ted and I went to Quincy in the AM to see Jack’s game. He came in to pitch relief and got three strikeouts. It was great. All I could do was laugh at how good he did, just sort of lobbing the ball in there for strikes. He still doesn’t have a pitcher’s form, but the coach said he had a good arm, so we’ll work on that.
Later that night we all went to Little Mexico to eat. It was great having all of us (minus Laina and mom) going out.
Monday I took Ted back to the airport by myself. I charged the car in Brentwood and of course went to Microcenter to see all the cool electronics/computers/toys. I had Chik-fil-A, Starbucks (thereby completing my Whiteness bingo card) and headed home. I ordered food on Chik-fil-A’s mobile app, which then allowed me to skip the long line of cars and move to the front. Technology is nice sometimes! On the way home I went to a Dollar General to get something to drink. They didn’t have anyone working up front. I just went and paid at a kiosk and left. I don’t think anyone else was in the store. Technology is sad sometimes…
